Had taken a combination of drugs

A combination of prescription drugs in the system of a 43-year-old woman made her unfit to drive, Banbridge Magistrates Court heard last Thursday.

Alison McCreanor, Ashgrove Manor, Banbridge, was banned for 12 months for driving while unfit on May 20 last year. She was also fined £200 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard police attended a road traffic collision on the Forthill Road, Banbridge. A sample of the defendant’s blood was taken and on analysis it show it contained drugs to deal with insomnia and depression.

A solicitor representing McCreanor said she had broken her back in 2009 and had been on medication since then. He added that she was deeply apologetic. She had been driving for 26 years and it was very unfortunate what happened this day.

District Judge, Mr Peter King, said it was brought about by the combination of prescription drugs and he had no doubt she would not be back in court again.
