Had three bags of Methadrone

Damien Donaghy, Huntly Road, Banbridge, was sentenced to one month in custody, suspended for 12 months, for possession of a class B drug, Methadrone, on December 28 last year.

He was also fined £100 for indecent behaviour and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard police saw the defendant urinating at Bridge Street in Banbridge.

He was intoxicated and police suspected he was under the influence of something other than alcohol.

Donaghy was searched and a small tin was found on him. It contained three plastic bags of white powder which turned out to be Methadrone.

He said it was plant food which was slang for Methadrone and was worth £75. He had no memory of urinating on the bridge.

Mr Gabriel Ingram, representing the defendant, said Donaghy was beginning to amass something of a criminal record.

Deputy District Judge Laura Ievers said Donaghy had appeared in court on a number of occasions and been dealt with in different ways and this drugs offence crossed the custody threshold.
