Samuel George Thompson, Railway Street, Banbridge, had admitted unlawful possession of a class B drug, cannabis resin, on September 16 last year.

The court heard he had two grams of the drug.

District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, described Thompson as a persistent, remorseless offender.

A barrister representing the defendant said community service would test Thompson’s assertion that he was abstaining from drink and drugs.

The lawyer said Thompson’s appearance was due to injuries he had received when he was the victim of an attack.
