Hair today, a gift for a child with cancer tomorrow

It will be the first time in 21 years that 30-year-old Tabatha Crothers will have had short hair.

On Friday, the mother of five from Clarehill Road will have 11 inches cut from her tresses. The hair will be used to provide a wig for a child who suffers from cancer.

The mother of five will have the deed done at Bleu hairdressers in Main Street in the village today (Friday) at noon. The hair will be cut from the pony tail and then it will be sent to the Little Princesses charity in England.

Tabatha decided to help the charity after she heard an eight-year-old boy who suffered from cancer had sadly passed away last week.

“The last time I had short hair I was nine so this will be a real shock for everyone who knows me,” she said. “Some people reckon I will not go ahead with it but it is something that I had been thinking about for a while.

“Bleu have very kindly offered to do it for free.

“I keep saying that it will grow back again and when it does I plan to do the same again. It is my way of giving something back.

“I am surprised at how many people are coming up to me and saying that it is such a nice thing to do.

“My husband Laurence keeps re-assuring me my hair will grow back and everyone has been very supportive. ”
