Hairdressing students take part in skills competition

FOUR talented hairdressing students from the Southern Regional College, Lurgan, took part in the first stage of Hairdressing WorldSkills UK.

Students had to submit photographs of their mannequin heads to a panel of judges in England.

Competitors had six hours to produce two different looks on official mannequin heads.

NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing students, Rebecca McBurney and Danielle Smith, both from Portadown, competed in the intermediate heat and had to create a Ladies Progressive Cut, Colour and Style and a Men’s Fashionable Commercial Cut and Colour. NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing students, Vanessa Wray and Shauna Haughian, both from Lurgan, competed in the advanced heat and had to create a Men’s Progressive Cut, Colour and Style and a Ladies Long Hair Design with Colour and Ornamentation.

Students will be judged on their execution of design, colour, style and overall impression for their total finished look.

Successful competitors will be invited to take part in stage two heats which take place across the UK in June 2013. Highest scoring competitors across all heats will be invited to compete in the live UK final in November 2013.

WorldSkills competition offers students and trainees the opportunity to benchmark their abilities against industry peers, perfect their skills and demonstrate their hairdressing talents and creativity.
