Hallowe'en Carnival participants wanted

A GROUP charged with organising the annual Londonderry Hallowe'en carnival is seeking participants for this year's extravaganza.

In preparation for the Hallowe’en Carnival of Lights 2010, the NW Carnival Initiative want to hear from community groups, youth groups, schools or any social group who wish to participate in this year’s carnival parade.

Helen Harley, Carnival Development Officer, said: “This is your opportunity to showcase your creative talent at the original and best Hallowe’en Carnival in Ireland!

“The Carnival of Lights is a chance to create a fun and vibrant pageant, where your imagination can run free as the City comes together to celebrate and illuminate the City streets.”

There are also places still available in the lighting techniques masterclasses this Thursday, September 9, and Friday, September 10, at The Gasyard Arts Factory.

The workshops will be delivered by Inishowen Carnival Group and is sure to be of interest to community workers, art students, artists or volunteers building creative skills in the area or who want develop their own skills and benefit their community.

The pieces created during the workshops will be showcased at the Banks of the Foyle Hallowe’en Carnival of Lights Parade on October 31, 2010. The cost for the workshop is 25.00 (full fee) or 10.00 (concession). Bursaries also available.

The North West Carnival Initiative is a consortium of community and cultural organisations based in the city. The consortium was formed to produce creative, carnival-based programmes through artistic excellence, community training, cultural collaboration and civic celebration. It aims to promote the use of carnival as a means of publicly expressing the creative talent and energy of all people within the city and throughout the North West.
