Halloween Night stones rampage but fireworks complaints fall

POLICE are investigating reports of youths throwing stones at houses in Ballymoney as part of a Halloween Night rampage.

At least two houses were struck by stones when windows were broken and other homes were also targeted but there were no reports of damage.

The PSNI received several reports of youths misbehaving in the Kirk Road/Newal Road areas of the town between 10pm and 10.30pm on Sunday.

Police say enquiries are ongoing but they would like to speak to information about a group of five youths in the area.

On Friday night two arrests were made close to the Railway Station in Ballymoney. Police investigated reports of disorderly behaviour fireworks being thrown and a 26-year-old man and a 16-year-old youth were arrested. The PSNI is to prepare a report for the Public Prosecution Service.

And last Wednesday police seized fireworks from young people in the Magherahoney area.

Meanwhile, Inspector David Anderson of Ballymoney PSNI, said the amount of fireworks seemed to be less this Halloween.

He told the Ballymoney & Moyle Times: “We had a number of reports of fireworks across the Borough over the weekend but my feeling is that the number of complaints and number of fireworks in circulation were reduced from last year.

“And thankfully we had no reports of anybody being injured either by fireworks or by Halloween bonfires which is pleasing.

“I would like to thank young people, parents and the public for their co-operation in helping to ensure that problems have been reduced. Let’s give everybody a bit of credit,” added the inspector.
