Hamilton calls for victim support group for city

Speaking after attending the European Innocent Victims Seminar in Enniskillen last week, Mrs Hamilton said the north west needed the equivalent of the South East Fermanagh Foundation (SEFF), which was a group of victims/survivors formed as a result of identified needs among those who had been the innocent victims and survivors of terrorism or other Troubles related violence, as well as their families.

“I was among a delegation from Londonderry to attend the seminar and I was most impressed with the work of SEFF and the way it offered counselling, befriending, benefits and welfare advice as well as complementary therapy treatments and advocacy and representation work.

“The group also offers members educational and social activity programmes for those psychologically and physically affected by Troubles related violence.

“An organisation like this is sadly lacking in the north west and I would be very interested in being involved in setting up a similar group here.”

Mrs Hamilton, who was injured in the Claudy bombing in July 1972, said she would be happy to hear from any like minded people would like to explore forming a group in Londonderry.
