McAlinden (19), of Deeny Drive, Lurgan, was fined 100 and banned for three months for driving without insurance and 50 for not having a driving licence.

The court heard police saw McAlinden driving a car in the Annesborough Industrial Estate. The car was owned by Quinn.

Mrs Bronagh McPartland, representing both defendants, said Quinn had been driving and stopped for a smoke. McAlinden got into the car, did a ‘U’ turn and the car skidded.

She added that Quinn’s licence was essential to his work.

District Judge, Mr Alan White, said if his licence was essential Quinn had ‘acted like a complete idiot’ in letting a 19-year-old get into his car and do a handbrake turn.
