Conor Campbell, whose address was given as Ballynamoney Road, Lurgan, was fined £175 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for unlawful possession of a class B drug on May 8 last year.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 1.40am police saw a car in William Street and there were two males standing outside it.

They noticed Campbell’s eyes were glazed, his pupils dilated and there was a strong smell of cannabis coming from the car.

He was taken to Lurgan police station for a strip search but before it started he produced a small bag of herbal cannabis from his groin area.

He said he had bought it for £20 and it was for his own personal use.

His solicitor told the court Campbell was a full time student.
