Handed over cannabis butt

When police detected a strong smell of cannabis from a Lurgan man he handed over a cannabis cigarette to them.

Conor Seeley (22), whose address was given as Charlestown Road, Portadown, was fined £120 last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for unlawful possession of a class B drug on November 1 last year.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 1.30am Seeley was stopped in Church Place, Lurgan, and police noticed a strong smell of cannabis from him.

When they asked him if he had any drugs he handed over a cigarette, telling police it contained cannabis.

Mr Pat Vernon, representing the defendant, said there was nothing relevant on his record.

He explained that Seeley had been out with friends and they had been drinking.

Mr Vernon added that a friend of the defendant had the cigarette and smoked most of it before giving Seeley the butt to finish off.
