22-year-old Hannah Sankannawar will be heading in October to Tanzania to help transform the lives of the local community. Hannah is a former pupil of the Model Primary School and Dalriada School, and has recently graduated from Newcastle University Law School.

She said: For most of my life I have focused on personal and academic development. Now I know it is time for me to dedicate myself to help others, and more importantly to make a change. In October I will be volunteering with one of the leading charities in sustainable development, Raleigh International Trust, for 10 weeks in Tanzania. This is one of the world’s poorest nations with a large proportion of its population living below the international poverty line. This equates to living on under 76p a day.”

“During my stay I will be working in the most remote regions, with local volunteers. We aim to bring clean water, sanitation, and a range of sustainable features to transform the lives of children, vulnerable families, and communities that have been affected by disease, poverty and injustice. People shouldn’t be dying from preventable diseases.”

“I want to raise as much money as possible for them so I will be doing several events, including a raffle for all people in the Ballymoney area to donate and win some cool prizes. I am currently living on £1 per day for five days, because I want to identify and understand what poverty feels like.”

Asking for support, Hannah added: “So far I have raised £155, however I would really love to hit my target of £800. I would also love to see more young people from the Ballymoney area volunteer in developing countries, and I would really appreciate the support from my town.

You can donate online at my justgiving site or by texting: text HANH92 £1 to 70070. ALL donations go directly to the work and not to me.
