Happy Christmas to the people of Lisburn - Mayor

“With Christmas Day just around the corner, I would like to wish every resident within the Lisburn City Council area a very enjoyable, peaceful and Happy Christmas.

“We are all very busy these days looking after the family, working, shopping for Christmas presents, and attending Christmas festivities.

“It is very important that we take stock of what is really special this festive period: the wonderful birth of Jesus Christ, family and friends and helping others who are less fortunate than ourselves. In December, many people are grateful for all the benefits and good news they received throughout the year but they also reflect on difficult days.

“I would encourage everyone to show kindness and provide support to those who are lonely, ill or bereaved.

“This invaluable Christmas present will be remembered and cherished. Throughout my mayoral term, I have had the privilege of meeting many volunteers including community groups, schools, our senior citizens and young people, all of whom do not often receive any formal recognition of their invaluable work.

“I would like to commend each and every one of you for your tireless work.

“My Christmas engagements have been numerous and have included carol services, church services and community based Christmas Lights Switch Ons.

2Each has been enjoyable and the true community spirit of Christmas was very evident!

“It has been a great pleasure to visit our residents in their nursing homes and I was humbled by the welcomes I received from them and their nursing staff.

“For those residents who are unable to leave hospital at Christmas I wish you a Merry Christmas and give a very big thank you to the medical teams who will be on duty to take care of you.

“The true meaning of Christmas is incredibly special; and I hope that peace and goodwill continues in 2015 and beyond. A very Happy Christmas and Peaceful New Year to all.
