Happy days for Daniel

YOUNG Daniel Madden was a happy boy in February 1978.

For the youngster had just be reunited with his favourite £100 guitar.

Daniel and his two brothers, Sean and Kevin, made up The Maddens who performed at local venues.

One night after a concert they discovered that Daniel’s favourite instrument had gone missing.

“Every time our telephone rings he’s off to it like a shot, just hoping that someone has found it,” said his father Henry.

He made an appeal through the columns of the ‘MAIL’ for its safe return.

No sooner had the paper hit the streets than the guitar was recovered by Craigavon police.

They found it abandoned and undamaged in a hedge near the playing fields on the Tandragee Road.

“Somebody had apparently thrown it away after seeing the story in the paper,” said Mrs Madden.

At the time The Maddens were making quite a name for themselves in the Craigavon area.

As well as Daniel on guitar, 12 year old Sean played drums and 14 year old Kevin also played guitar.

They were out most weekends playing at local charity events and concerts.
