Happy first birthday to the Nimble Needles

A COLERAINE voluntary group of needle crafters with the nifty name of Nimble Needles, is celebrating one year of crafting in the town.

Its members get together over a cuppa every Wednesday morning at Ballysally Youth and Community Centre, where they share their experiences, learn new techniques and of course, have a good old laugh.

During their inaugural year, the crafter have been busy not only with their own projects for themselves, family and friends, but they have been knitting for a number of charities too, including The Big Knit, Age NI and Sleeping Angels.

Currently they are knitting and crocheting squares that are then patched together to make blankets and these will be donated to people in the community that need them. Ballysally Community Playgroup and Tots and Carers have had their dolls clothed with knitted underwear, dresses, trousers and t-shirts.

The crafters have also been set a challenge from the playgroup to make handmade fruit and vegetables for the children’s learning time.

And if that wasn’t enough to keep them busy, they recently welcomed visitors and their stands, including Coleraine SureStart Partnership, Women’s Aid and Community Education NRC, to their celebration morning.

Nimble Needles welcomes any crafter that uses a needle for knitting, crocheting, beading, patchwork, tapestry and much more. Whether you are a beginner or expert, call in for a cuppa and chat - the group would love to see you.
