Happy results day for Glengormley High students

Headteacher Lex Hayes paid tribute to the hard work of all involved. He said: “All involved in the GCSE results, pupils, staff and parents should take pleasure in these results. The amount of work that has been done is not to be underestimated and many of these students will be returning to carry on with their studies with us at AS and A Level.”

Mr Hayes explained that the school has an excellent track record of producing pupils with A level successes who achieved the minimum entry grades at GCSE. He added: “Some pupils take longer than others to mature in an educational sense and, despite the efforts of our staff, some of our pupils’ aspirations at GCSE are too low. When they realise they can do well in national exams they blossom and at A level their grades are outstanding.”

A school spokesperson explained: “The top performer was Lauren Prause who scored an amazing seven A grades including three A* awards, She also added a B to cap a great performance. Pupils like Morgan Binnie with seven A passes and a B grade were overjoyed as they opened their results. So was Amy Millar who opened her results to find six A grades including an A* and two B grades as did Lucy Walsh. The boys, not to be outdone, also shone with Cameron Hughes with four A’s including an A* and four B grades. Leia Cassels, Sophie Magee, Kirsten Morrison, Rebecca Phillips, Serianna O’Rourke and Jordan Thompson also achieved fantastic results with multiple A grades. The number of results in the top grades of has increased to a new record this year while at all levels below the numbers of grades achieved also increased.”

All 120 pupils who completed Year 12 achieved GCSE qualifications and no pupil is leaving with no qualifications.

At GSCE in Science, Hospitality, Performing Arts, French and ICT all pupils performed at record levels.

Mr Hayes also put on record the efforts that parents had made in supporting the school in their efforts to ensure that all pupils achieved their full potential, saying: “Most parents have worked with us in revising with their young people, supporting our discipline policies and in improving attendance in the last three years, this has paid dividends today.”
