Harassed former partner over the period of a few days

Over a period of a few days, a 26-year-old man harassed his former partner by turning up at her home and her place of work.

Tomas Koreiva, Union Street, Lurgan, admitted harassment between April 12 and April 16 this year when he appeared last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

The court heard that on April 13 at 12.40am the injured party reported that the defendant was at her house. He was drunk and throwing objects at the window.

Koreiva was arrested for disorderly behaviour, and dealt with by way of a fixed penalty notice. The injured party did not wish to make a statement.

At 10am the injured party called the police saying that the defendant, who was still drunk, had called at her place of work.

He was asked to leave, and he went to her home address where he was causing a nuisance in the garden.

At 8.30pm the same day she said that the defendant was harassing her with text messages and phone calls.

On April 15 at 7pm the injured party attended Lurgan police station and said Koreiva had followed her into a takeaway food place around lunch time.

Thirty minutes later he had shown up at her place of work. She made a statement and police arrested the defendant, who made full admissions.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, adjourned the case until June 24 so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.

He also asked that the injured party should be contacted about a restraining order, as he was concerned about the constant series of events.
