Hard work pays off for Cullybackey pupils

Staff and students at Cullybackey College were able to breathe easy this week as the much anticipated GCSE results were received by the Year 12 students.

Mr D. Donaldson, the College Principal noted: “The proportion of students to achieve 5 or more GCSE passes at grades A* to C is 54% and the number of pupils to achieve 5 or more GCSEs including English and Maths has risen again for the third consecutive year, by 3% to 39%.”

Vice Principal, Mr T. Manson, attributed the pupils’ successes to the hard work and partnership between the staff and pupils. Extra revision classes and exam breakfasts were provided by many staff to ensure the pupils were fully prepared and able to fulfil their potential.

He said: “It is great to see our students celebrating their successes alongside the staff, whose collaborative efforts over the past two years have paid off.”

The College is pleased to be in the position to invite many of their students back to sixth form studies in the newly refurbished Sixth Form Centre. The Cullybackey College sixth form continues to grow in size and these GCSE results follow on from the A-Level successes celebrated last week.

Mr Donaldson added: “At Cullybackey College we offer a wide and modern curriculum at GCSE level and it is great to see so many students achieving the top grades. All Year 12 pupils deserve congratulations for their efforts, and we look forward to seeing many back to pursue A-level study. To the remaining students, we offer our best wishes as they go on to further study or enter the workplace. We hope that they will look back on their time at the College with pride and fond memories.”

Some of the top students who achieved superb results included Stacey McIlmoyle, Sam Barkley, Kathryn-Ann and Amy-Louise McCombe and Ethan Sloan.
