Harry Corry staff raise cash for kids

This month, the staff of Harry Corry had a fancy dress day to raise funds for Cash for Kids, a charity that works with disadvantaged youths.

Joanne Alexander, the manager of the Harry Corry Rushmere branch explained the reasons for doing so.

She said: “Christmas is such a special time of the year and it’s just so sad that children in Northern Ireland are waking up on Christmas morning with no presents. So, we wanted to dress up and have a fun day, because we are fun people.”

Cash for Kids recently launched their ‘Mission Christmas’ initiative, a nationwide Christmas drive that encourages members of the public to buy an extra present and donate it to a disadvantaged child.

Donations can be made in designated drop-off points in various businesses across Northern Ireland, including Harry Corry.

“We just feel we wanted to get involved because last year they helped so many children across Northern Ireland.” Joanne said.

“Over 2,650 children in Northern Ireland received Christmas presents in 2012.”

Harry Corry workers continued to have fancy dress every Saturday, up until Saturday, December 21.

“Any cash raised from our fun days will be used to buy Christmas presents for the appropriate age groups”, Joanne said.

In addition to Christmas gifts, cash donations can also be made to the charity. Joanne added: ”We just do hope that people call in leave Christmas presents, leave presents of all sorts in with us, which will be collected a week before Christmas and given out to children who really need it.”

She concluded: “It’s such as special time of the year and we are very happy that we are able to help.”
