Harry tackles Ultra Trail Du Mont-Blanc

LOCAL man Harry McCloy has once again donned his running shoes and is taking on the Ultra Trail Du Mont-Blanc in the Alps for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children (NICFC).

The UTMB is Europe’s premier ultra race which attracts the world’s top ultra runners.

Measuring a distance of 163 km, the race starts in Chamonix in France, moves to Cormayeur in Italy, next to Champex-Lac in Switzerland before returning to Chamonix.

For Harry this is another chance to test himself - always going a little further into the unknown,

“No matter how tough the going gets, any pain or discomfort caused by the run will disappear as soon as I stop,” said Harry.

“But unfortunately not so for the children and young people with cancer who live day in and day out with their illness and pain and suffering it brings.

“Unfortunately we can’t prevent cancer but we can help financially by maintaining facilities like Shimna Valley Holiday House in Newcastle and Pine Cottage on the outskirts of Coleraine which offers families a self-catering break and time to recharge their batteries.”
