Harry to run for 24 hours!

HAVE you ever uttered the phrase "I haven't sat down all day"?

Well, spare a thought for charity fundraiser and marathon runner Harry McCloy who next month will quite literally not sit down ALL day.

For Harry is undertaking Ireland's first ever 24 hour run - the Energia Belfast 24 - which is to be staged at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast.

On August 6th , Harry and the other runners will complete laps of the track for a 24 hour period stopping just for refreshment and food.

"When you go along, there are a couple of people to assist you with food and drink and then you basically just run for the next 24 hours," Harry told the Times.

"I don't really know what to expect as I have never done this before as it's the first time a 24 run has been held in Ireland.

"I recently ran 56 miles in ten hours so I'm looking at maybe 80 to 100 miles over the 24 hours but we will see what happens.

"If all the components for a perfect race are in place ie weather conditions, nutrition, pacing, mental attitude, fitness and injury-free, then it's going to be extremely tough.

If any one or more of the components are missing, well then, it's going to be unimaginable."

Harry can be seen most days pounding the roads around Ballymoney, Ballybogey, Portrush and Coleraine.

As well as testing himself to the limit, Harry will also be using the event to raise money for the Northern ireland Cancer Fund for Children.
