Hate crime assault in Ballymena

Police in Ballymena are investigating a suspected assault which left a man with injuries to his head on the evening of Thursday 11 December.

The assault happened in Broughshane Street, with one man thought to have been attacked by a number of others.

A police spokesman said: “We are investigating this as a sectarian hate crime.”

The injured man was taken to hospital with head injuries, but these are not thought to be life threatening.

Police arrested one man on suspicion of assault a short time later. However, it is still important that any witnesses come forward to assist the investigation and help us gain a clear understanding of the nature of the incident. Please call police on the non-emergency number 101 if you saw what happened on Broughshane Street at around 7:15pm on Thursday 11 December.”
