Have your say!

ARE you under 25 and interested in saying what you think on local issues? Derry City Council is asking young people their views on what should go into the new Derry City Council Good Relations Strategy 2011/12 – 2013/14.

The current strategy (available to view on www.derrycity.gov.uk/goodrelations runs out in March 2011. A widespread consultation process across the city and district has engaged with adults from a broad range of opinions but there has been an under-representation of young people under 25 expressing their views.

“Much of the adult feedback has suggested Good Relations work should be done with young people – but we haven’t heard much opinion from young people themselves on what they think the priorities for Good Relations work are,” explained Sue Divin, Community Relations Officer with Derry City Council.

“We are keen to hear from young people what they think would help challenge racism, sectarianism and prejudice; help people understand and celebrate diversity; and help make Derry~Londonderry a place where our council services can be equally accessed by everyone regardless of identity or background” added Angela Askin, Community Relations Officer.

A specific consultation session with people aged 12 - 25 has been arranged to take place at the Nerve Centre (Youth Hostel Cinema / Computer lab side) on Monday August 2 between 11am and 1.30pm (includes free lunch).

The session aims to be interactive and will be mainly based on discussion and computers. Registration in advance is preferable. To register please phone the Community Relations Officers (Sue, Angela or Betty) on 71345160 or e-mail [email protected] Assistance with transport may be available if required – please ask.

Derry City Council’s Good Relations work is funded through the District Council’s Community Relations Programme, Community Relations Unit, OFMDFM (Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister).
