Have your say on artwork

RENOWNED sculptor and artist Maurice Harron has been commissioned by Craigavon Council to design public artwork for Lurgan town centre and budding artists throughout the Borough can contribute to its unique design.

The finished art piece will include the ideas and views of local residents and embody the distinct character and identity of the town.

Consequently council has produced special postcards where all residents can leave their message or design which will then be laser cut into steel and incorporated into the sculptures, leaving their mark forever.

A similar project is taking place in Portadown.

The freepost postcards will be issued to all pupils at schools throughout the borough and local residents will be able to pick up one at their local leisure centre or community centre or by emailing [email protected]

The freepost postcards should be returned by April 30.

Chair of the Development committee, Alderman Sydney Anderson, commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity for residents both young and old to contribute their ideas for the development of these unique landmarks and to leave a lasting legacy which people now and in the future will see for years to come.”

Chair of the Leisure Services committee, Councillor Mary McAlinden, added: “The development of these two exciting and inspirational sculptures will help to enhance Lurgan and Portadown’s vibrant environment, making the borough a more beautiful place to shop, work and relax. I would urge everyone throughout the area to get creative and get involved in this once in a lifetime opportunity.”
