Heading to meetacademic after floods

COUNCILLOR Brian Heading is set to meet with an academic from Queen’s University following last week’s floods across the Lisburn area.

Mr Heading said: “The floods and their impact in the Lagan Valley area concerned me. I have since arranged a meeting with an academic from Queen’s University to ask for his opinion on the flood plain Lisburn and Belfast sits on and whether it is possible over development in our area is adding to the floods.”

Councillor Heading added: “Aside from that, when I called Water Service about a culvert that appeared to be blocked, when I gave them the address they weren’t sure whether it was a Roads Service, Rivers Agency or Water Service culvert and that needs to be better co-ordinated.”

Mr Heading also said that he would be writing to the appropriate Minister to ask whether there have been cut backs on the maintenance of culverts.
