Health and care centre is top priority

COUNCILLORS have welcomed correspondence from the Chief Executive of the Health and Social Care board which outlines that the new Health and Care Centre planned for Ballymena is one of his department's top priorities.

Members heard that the Health Board’s John Compton met with the Council’s Chief Executive Anne Donaghy to discuss the centre proposed for the site at the old Braid Valley Hospital.

Donaghy informed members that it had been a very positive meeting and that the figure of the budget require was reduced, she said:“We had a very positive meeting, he indicated that this facility is top of the list.

“I understand the figure has been reduced and is being considered very positively with a view to resolution.”

Members heard that this figure being reduced could mean the project finally gets the go ahead.

Councillor Tommy Nicholl who has been involved with the proposals said: “The figure is a lot closer to what we believed it would be. We are now moving in the right direction.”
