Health and safety success for Huhtamaki

Lurgan-based global packaging giant Huhtamaki has won a major health and safety prize at Ireland’s premier awards ceremony for the environmental, waste management and energy sectors.

The company won the Safety in Waste category, which attracted the largest number of nominations and which was judged by the Health and Safety Executive NI (HSENI), at the recent Sustainable Ireland Awards ceremony in Belfast.

In what has been a hugely successful period for Huhtamaki, the sole supplier of McDonald’s cup carriers for the UK and Ireland market was also recognised for its energy efficiency with the awarding of the ISO 50001 Accreditation in Energy Management.

The Sustainable Ireland Awards judges praised Huhtamaki’s committed and well developed approach towards health and safety, which has resulted in a significant improvement and substantial reduction in ‘lost time’
injuries in recent
years.

A part of a global company employing over 200 people locally, producing moulded fibre products for the egg and fast food industries, Huhtamaki (Lurgan) Ltd operates from a single site in Dollingstown.
