Health Centre construction isfinally under way

WORK on the new Health Centre has now entered into Phase three of the project, it was confirmed by the Northern Trust.

Members at last Monday evening’s meeting of Ballymena Council received a letter from the Northern Health and Social Care Trust providing an update on work at Ballymena Health Centre.

The letter stated that works are underway for the new Health and Care Centre at the Braid Valley Hospital site on the Cushendall Road. The construction is scheduled for completion by early summer 2014 and occupation due in the Autumn of 2014. Phase three of the enabling works will be done in three stages and began on Monday, October 15 and is estimated to run for 22 weeks.

Due to the nature of these works, it is possible that work may take longer as extreme adverse weather conditions similar to that we experienced in Winter 2010, will have a direct impact on time scales.

Councillor Tommy Nicholl who has campaigned for the health centre, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that work is still continuing to take place. We should applaud the work and the workers. There will be disruption because of the expansiveness of the site but we are moving in the right direction.”
