Health fair at Newmills

NEWMILLS Presbyterian Church will host a special health and wellbeing fair this Saturday.

Reverend Gordon Best announced exhibitions, seminars and 'come-and-try-it' events to take place in the New Halls complex on the Moss Bank Road between 10am and 1pm.

The event aims to address the three-pronged needs of body, mind and soul in a friendly and non-threatening environment and is being used as a means of outreach to the community.

It will provide them with information to improve their health and wellbeing and encourage changes in lifestyles as well as giving them the opportunity to view the facilities provided by the New Halls complex, which was opened last autumn.

Advice and information will be available from a wide range of charities and organisations, including the Ulster Cancer Foundation, Chest Heart & Stroke, Action Cancer, Diabetes UK, NI Fire & Rescue Service, Citizen's Advice, Travelwise, the police and many others.

Probably one of the busiest stalls at the fair is expected to be the free cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure testing station, run by the Chest Heart and Stroke nurses.

Skin scanner tests will be available from the Ulster Cancer Foundation and Action Cancer.

The highlight of the fair will be the seminars on ‘Healthy Eating’ by Action Cancer, ‘Depression – Weakness or Illness?’ by Care in Crisis, ‘Drug Awareness’ by the PSNI and ‘A Spiritual Journey’ by Reverend Gordon Best.
