Heart charity urges locals to put a spring in their step

Your heart charity is calling on the local community to put their best foot forward and sign up to the rescheduled Heart Walk to raise vital funds for the charity’s Mending Broken Hearts Appeal.

As a BHF Northern Ireland Heart Town, Coleraine has been specially chosen by your heart charity to host a Heart Walk to raise money for its Mending Broken Hearts Appeal – an ambitious project which aims to raise funds for innovative science into heart failure that could lead to a breakthrough in heart health in the next generation.

Heart failure is a condition that causes the heart to pump less effectively. It can result in sufferers tiring very easily, and struggling to complete tasks that most people take for granted. Your heart charity encourages locals, regardless of age and fitness ability, to put on a pair of comfortable shoes and take our scenic park walk between Coleraine’s two bridges from Christie Park to Somerset Park.

Gary Wilson, Fundraising Volunteer Manager for BHF Northern Ireland, said: “Within five years we anticipate one million people in the UK will be living with heart failure and three quarters of these patients will not live beyond five years.

“Now Spring has sprung why not dust off your walking shoes and blow away those winter blues by registering for our rescheduled Heart Walk. If the people of Coleraine get together, sign up to this Heart Walk and raise money through sponsorship they’ll help us to give hope to people living with heart failure.

“As a BHF Northern Ireland Heart Town the local community has been fantastic at supporting our fundraising activity, so I hope they get behind this activity and put their hearts and trainer soles to help us beat heart disease, for good.”

The Coleraine Heart walk is one a series of Heart Walks throughout the UK in a bid to help raise over £180,000 for the Mending Broken Hearts Appeal.
