Heat didn’t lead to hospital spike

The Western Trust says it didn’t record a spike in attendances at Altnagelvin as a result of the recent higher-than-normal temperatures.

Last week the city experienced the sunniest days of the year sofar, with the attendant risks of sunburn and heat stroke. But a Western Trust spokesperson said: “Altnagelvin Hospital’s Emergency Department has not experienced any unusual increase in activity in relation to the recent hot weather. The usual summer pattern of attendances is in keeping with previous trends over summer periods. We would remind parents and children of all ages to play safe this summer to avoid preventable attendances to our Emergency Departments.”
