Heat map of city not complete

A CONTRACT to thermally map Londonderry using an infrared plane was awarded in February 2011 but has not yet been completed because the weather hasn’t been suitable.

The purpose of thermal mapping is to create a heat map of Londonderry to allow people see how well insulated their homes are and take steps to save money and keep warm.

According to OFMDFM a “thermal mapping contract was awarded February 2011 but as yet has not been completed as there must be specific weather conditions for it to be carried out.”

In other areas where infrared mapping has taken place special planes with thermal imaging cameras attached have recorded thermal images to give an understanding of how energy efficient city properties are.
