Heatseeking mission

LURGAN shoppers went on a heatseeking mission last week.

With temperatures well into the minuses, gloves, hats, scarves and blankets were in high demand with many shops doing a roaring trade.

Business was booming for Heaton’s, who sold out of gloves, hat and scarves last week.

“We sold the majority before Christmas, then as soon as the snow came the rest of the stock got demolished,” said an employee.

Blankets were also a big seller with Heaton’s doing a great trade on throws for 2.50.

“They sold out within three days,” said the member of staff.

She added: “The thermal stuff has been selling really well. Especially the men’s stuff.”

And the bad weather doesn’t appear to have dampened shoppers spirits: “We’ve had a really productive last couple of weeks. The weather hasn’t affected our trade as much as other places.”

Andrew McElwaine of SD Kells told the ‘MAIL’: “Hats, gloves and scarves have been selling really well. We’re not quite sold out, there’s still enough items left to meet the demand.

“Our Regatta winter coats have been reduced to half price and they’re selling well.

“All our cold weather stock has been selling very well - warm, woolly jumpers, heavy trousers, etc. Electric blankets have also been doing well.”
