‘Hedge fund’ with a difference in Moyle helping wildlife

A NUMBER of groups in the Moyle area are planting hedges to ensure wildlife flourishes on their doorsteps.

Under the Heritage Lottery-funded ‘Hedgerows Grow West’ project, a Moyle Council report said there is a plan ‘to plant approximately 100m of native hedge along the Tow River footpath between the Integrated Primary School and the Council office (in Ballycastle).

‘Once established this will act as an excellent wildlife corridor, linking with the meadow at the back of the council.’

The report added: ‘So far there are two other planned hedging events one with Carnduff Residents Association and the other with Cairns Residents Association, who will both receive some hedging tools so they can help maintain their hedges into the future.’
