Held in the highest respect

Betty, as she was affectionately known, was the dearly loved wife of the late Hugh McCann who was better known throughout Banbridge and Gilford as Jerry.

A woman of a cheery and friendly disposition, Betty was held in the highest respect.

She was employed in Gilford Mill from 14 years of age until the Mill closure, and then in Denny’s Factory in Portadown.

She enjoyed a friendly game of bingo, going to dances and a good book. She liked a day’s shopping with her friend Barbara but her main interest was centred around her home and family, and it is there that her passing will be most felt.

Betty was a member of St Paul’s Parish Church, Gilford.

She is survived by her daughter Lily, son Michael, granddaughter Claire and great granddaughter Abigail. To these and all other relatives sincere sympathy has been extended.

Elizabeth’s daughter greatly appreciated the love and tender care that was shown to her by Dr Bronte her family doctor.

The funeral took place from St Paul’s Parish Church when the Rev David Palmer paid a fitting tribute and a large congregation came to pay their last respects. The hymns ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’ and ‘What a Friend We Have In Jesus’ were sung. Mrs Lorna Palmer presided at the organ.

The interment took place in the family plot in Tullylish Parish Churchyard. Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to William Bell and Co Funeral Directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge BT32 3LR for Mencap.

William Bell and Co had charge of the funeral arrangements.
