Helen McFadden receives her MBE

WELL-known Dromore charity worker, Helen McFadden, has told how she enjoyed a “lovely one-to-one conversation” with the Queen last week.

Helen was at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday to receive her MBE and was thrilled to be able to share a few words with Her Majesty as she was presented with her medal.

“It was a wonderful day,” said Helen, who travelled to London with companions Neil Reid and Norah Beare, former councillor on Banbridge District Council.

“The Queen asked which charity I worked for and I said I like to help out with them all, even though it gets quite busy - to which she replied, ‘I bet so’.

“She then commented how things were much better now in Northern Ireland and I congratulated her on her recent visit to Ireland.

“I said she had made a great impact with her visit which had created great feelings both north and south of the border and she said she hoped it had helped in a small way.”

The Dromore woman, who is involved in the ‘Doing it For Dromore’ action group, received the honour for her services to charity.
