Last week Joe’s partner Zoe McAvoy appealed for the driver to come forward saying she would not ‘leave a dog by the side of the road’ like that.

Joe sustained multiple injuries including a fractured neck bone, two broken vertebrae in his back, a broken pelvis, and fractured chest bone, ribs, and legs. He also had internal bleeding which caused further complications.

But now friend and former Banbridge man Alan Paxton has set up a crowdfunding initiative for the self-employed wall and floor tiler, while The Railway Inn, Banbridge is to host a fundraising event.

Alan said: “I have set up this page for anyone who would like to give a little to Joseph and his young family, in this time of need.

“At around 3.50am on July 15, Joseph and his entire family’s life was turned upside down when he was ran over by a cowardly hit and run driver.

“This cowardly act led to Joseph lying helplessly on the road whilst a second vehicle then hit him leaving him fighting for his life, with most definitely life changing injuries.

“So anyone wishing to donate anything at all, will help to ease the burden of looking after a young family. A stress that Joseph and his partner Zoe could do without during Josephs long road to recovery.

“I thank you all in advance for your kind donations to this well liked young man.”

Meanwhile the Railway Inn fundraiser will be held on Saturday, August 13.

Posting on social media they said: “Any money raised will go to Joseph in order to help ease the pressure of looking after a young family whilst he concentrates on getting himself back to the fun loving family man we all know and love.”

Referring to Joe as her ‘rock’ and ‘soulmate,’ Zoe has thanked everyone for their support as she asked them to keep him in their prayers.
