Help paint a portrait of Londonderry

Culture Company is holding a series of public meetings to present details of the Portrait of a City community programme.

Taking place at 7.30pm on Thursday 22 November at the Waterside Theatre, group are invited to hear more details of this innovative community project.

City of Culture 2013 presents a unique opportunity to present the history and heritage of this city to the world. Portrait of a City, in association with BT, aims to tell the many stories of this city by creating community exhibitions and collecting together photographs, film/video and oral testimonies into one of the largest digital community archives ever compiled - a digital memory bank of the city and its rural hinterland.

The Portrait of a City team says it would like to work with community groups and interested individuals across the city to digitise old photographs and film footage and record memories that will depict community life over the decades.

Its invitation tells groups: “We would like to work with you to create community exhibitions exploring and celebrating the culture, heritage and history of your area. In return we can offer you free digital training and support so that you can become involved in digitising images and creating a digital archive for your community. We are looking to engage with groups and individuals who are interested in local history or photography; willing to help collect stories or images; keen to have their stories told in 2013; willing to assist in creating a community exhibition; willing to give us permission to include their photographs and film in a citywide digital archive.

“If you are interested in hearing more about this exciting project, please come along on November 22 at 7.30 pm.”
