Help the Heroes event at the Cathedral Youth Club

THE first in an anticipated series of fundraising events for services charity Help the Heroes took place at the Cathedral Youth Club last week.

A well attended Coffee Morning in the Youth Club saw donations made by local people in aid of the charity. The fundraiser had added poignancy as it was inspired by the recent departure of local man, Irish Guard Dean Taylor, to serve in Afghanistan on a six month tour of duty. Dean Taylor, a member of the Cathedral Youth Club since he was a child, is currently awaiting final deployment to the war zone.

Leader of the Youth Club, Jeanette Warke, welcomed those attending the event, which included Dean Taylor’s parents.

The Help the Heroes campaign was established in October 2007 to provide support for service men and women who have been involved in combat after 9/11.

Graham Warke of the Cathedral Youth club said: “This is only the start of our fundraising for the Help the Heroes campaign.”
