Help Wings Appeal soar to new heights

LARNE residents have been urged to ‘Be Part of Something Special’ as this year’s Battle of Britain Wings Appeal takes off.

Mayor Gerardine Mulvenna launched the annual fundraiser along with members of the town’s Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) on Monday.

Thanks to William McIlroy, the Wings Appeal Shop will open in Dunluce Street on Monday for two weeks. All support and donations will be gratefully received.

RAFA chairman and Wings Appeal organiser, John Kirkpatrick and George Deakin, RAFA treasurer and welfare officer, appealed to the generosity of the Larne and Ballyclare public to support this year’s cash drive.

Mr Kirkpatrick said: “Our theme again in Larne this year, with thanks to the support of Larne Borough Council, is to ‘Be Part of Something Special’.

“The Royal Air Forces Association in Larne and across Northern Ireland urges the general public to support this year’s Wing’s Appeal.

“During the last year the welfare need and the cost of it has reached record levels and we therefore must increase our fundraising effort if we are to continue to meet the growing demand and provide the welfare support to those individuals who gave all that they had to give in our hour of need.”

Mr Kirkpatrick said the Larne RAFA branch is proud of the welfare work it has achieved over many years.

But claimed it was only possible because of the support of local people.

He added: “Again, I sincerely appeal for new members to join the association and assist in supporting the work of the Royal Air Forces Association.
