Helping connect older people

The Big Lottery Fund Reaching Out: Connecting Older People programme has enabled Carnlough Community Association to run a range of successful activities.

One of the most popular schemes is the Luncheon Club based at Glenlough Community Centre, which has encouraged attendance from all isolated older people living in rural villages along the Antrim Coast.

The Luncheon Club will now re-commence on Friday, February 26 after its Christmas sabbatical, with its first excursion taking place on March 18 to the Mount Stewart, Lady Londonderry’s residence.

A spokesperson for the Association said: “This year we would like to welcome people to express their interest in receiving an Easter fruit basket, either by filling in a form available in the Carnlough Harbour Office, Carnlough Post Office or during the Luncheon Club in the Glenlough Centre.

“The expressions of interest forms must be completed and returned by Friday, March 11.

“New members are always welcome, so please feel free to contact the Carnlough Community Association office 02828886188 for further information.”

Meanwhile, Carnlough Bowling Club has become one of the most successful clubs in the area and as a result of increasing membership it has increased its sessions to Monday 7-10pm and Thursday 2- 4pm.

The spokesperson added: “We would encourage older and isolated people to contact the Carnlough Community Association Harbour Office on 02828886188 and express their interest in taking part in the range of activities provided.
