Henderson Group shares sales secrets with traders

Eighteen local traders keen to learn more about how store layout can attract more customers and maximise their sales attended an evening seminar co-hosted by Business in the Community’s Connections programme and Larne Borough Council at LEDCOM’s Bank Road offices recently.

Guest speakers Stephen Hamilton, channel sales manager, and Healey Martin, regional fresh foods development manager from Henderson Wholesale, shared a combined total of 50 years’ retail experience and top tips on how to make the most of visual merchandising and product display to meet shopper needs and influence customer buying behaviour.

“The opportunity to learn some of the secrets of shop display to help increase sales from one of our home-grown, successful retail operators is a great help to our local traders,” commented Councillor Martin Wilson, who had formally welcomed the speakers.

“The feedback from the event was excellent and reflected the appreciation felt by participants for the Henderson Group’s willingness to share best practice in the interests of supporting Larne traders and the wider business community,” he added.

Heather Major, from Connections, sponsored by ESB Electric Ireland, said: “This seminar is one in a series being delivered across Northern Ireland as part of our support to help small businesses beat the recession and grow their businesses responsibly.”

“We are delighted to play our part via the Connections programme,” said Susan Kinane, business markets manager of ESB Electric Ireland. “The recession is hitting traders hard with increasing price competition and pressure from customers looking for best value,” she added.

“We believe that businesses working together in this way will help provide every competitive advantage for the SME sector and support Northern Ireland business growth.”
