Her devotion to patients was second to none

Linda was the dearly loved wife of Joe, loving mum of Jacqueline, mother-in-law of Peter and nanny of Andrew.

A woman of a charming and outgoing personality, she was brought up in the Scarva Road area of the town and attended Church Street School.

She was married on July 6, 1963 and enjoyed 50 years of married life.

A member of Scarva Street Presbyterian Church, Linda was a member of the PW and the Choir. She was also greatly interested in photography, went to classes to learn the computer and enjoyed arts and crafts and attending to the garden.

She is survived by her husband Joe, daughter Jacqueline, son-in-law Peter, grandson Andrew, sisters Rosemary (Banbridge), Janice (Wales) and brother Geoffrey (Canada). To these and all other relatives sincere sympathy has been extended.

The funeral took place from her home privately on Tuesday February 25, for a service in Scarva Street Presbyterian Church. The services at the home, church and graveside were conducted by the Rev Gordon Best but a special tribute was paid by the Rev Andrew Watson.

In the tribute the Rev Watson highlighted Linda’s devotion as a wife and mother and the 38 years of her life that were devoted to her nursing profession, eventually becoming an SRN in the Lagan Valley Hospital.

“Her devotion to the patients in her care was second to none,” said Rev Watson.

Also noting her courage, determination and positive outlook on life as she battled a serious illness, Rev Watson spoke of how in those dark times her Christian faith shone through.

Her daughter Jacqueline read ‘The ‘23rd Psalm’. The hymns ‘The Day Thou Gavest Lord Is Ended’, ‘O Soul Are You Weary and Troubled’ and ‘Abide with

Me’ were sung and the choir of which Linda was a member sang an anthem.

The interment took place in the New Cemetery. Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to William Bell and Co Funeral Directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, BT32 3LR for Macmillan Nurses.

William Bell and Co had charge of the funeral arrangements.
