Heritage Project Explores 1914-1916

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has awarded a £178,800 grant for a new project to help communities explore the impact of the First World War, the Battle of the Somme and the Easter Rising.‘On the Brink: The Politics of Conflict 1914-1916’ is a three-year project examining key historical events within this period of political and social tension. Community groups and schools, including those in Larne, Newtownabbey, and Carrickfergus, will explore key events with the assistance of the Mid Antrim Museums Service, artefacts, public memorials and monuments as part of an extensive programme. The aim is to create greater understanding of the past and its legacy. Councillor Declan O’Loan, Chair of the Mid-Antrim Museums Service Partnership, stated: “We are grateful to the Heritage Lottery Fund for their generous funding for ‘On the Brink’, which we aim to deliver as an inclusive exploration of this significant period in our shared history, set within its national and international context.”
