Hi-tech bins will text Council when full ...it’s not rubbish!

Moyle Council official Aidan McPeake said the plan is to install the bins at isolated areas of Moyle so that it cuts down on staff having to travel distances every so often to empty them.

The Council wants ten of the so-called ‘Big Belly Bins’ which can also compact their rubbish at a cost of £40,00 but £30,000 of that would be grant-aided but the Council is waiting to see if the funding bid is successful.

Cllr Colum Thompson said there were reports of bins overflowing in the Glens area this summer.

Council Chairperson Cllr Cara McShane praised Council staff for their foresight with such schemes.

Cllr Robert McIlroy said bins are needed in Bushmills.

Cllr Randal McDonnell hoped the new bins are fire-proof.
