High marks as Abbey Community College pupils receive A Level results

The Year 14 pupils, at the Monkstown-based secondary school, which has only been open since September of last year, vastly outperformed last year’s Northern Ireland average for A Level results, with 94 per cent of students achieving A*-C grades.

Of this, 76 per cent achieved three A*-C grades. Commenting on the school’s Facebook page, a spokesperson for the school said: “We are thrilled that our Year 14 Students gained 76 per cent in three A*- C grades in their A Level results... Many Congratulations and Good Luck to you all.”

This news was welcomed by a number of people, including one person who praised the staff at the Bridge Road school saying: “Well done pupils and well done teachers.”

The new school, which is an amalgamation of Newtownabbey Community High School and Monkstown Community School, opened its doors to pupils in September 2015.

The majority of students who attained their desired grades will now make the transition to a range of undergraduate courses at universities such as Stranmillis College, Ulster University and Liverpool John Moore’s.

Some of the high-achievers at the school included Rebekah Orr who achieved A*A*A and Tori Lunn, Aimee Kerr and Natalie Smith all of whom achieved A*A A.

Commenting on the exceptional results, Maria Quinn, Abbey Community College Principal said: “I am absolutely delighted with the achievement of our Year 14 Students. These results are testament to the hard work and commitment of students and their teachers. We wish all our young people continued success for the future.”
