Kirsty and husband Mark are preparing to scale the heights of the highest mountain in the British Isles.

It will be Kirsty’s third major fundraiser.

To date, she has raised almost £3,000 for three different charities.

For her next charity event, the couple will be tackling Ben Nevis in the Grampian Mountains which rises to 1,345 metres above sea level.

For many, it is a personal goal to reach the top and Kirsty said it is the couple’s biggest challenge yet.

“Because it is the highest one, it is a bit scary,” she said.

Training involves working out in the gym three or four times a week and walking most weekends.

Their Ben Nevis climb as part of a group will raise at least £1,400 for the Autism NI charity and is expected to take at least eight or nine hours to complete.

On her Just Giving page, Kirsty said: “We will trek to the top of the highest mountain in the UK, which stands at a staggering 4,408 ft above sea level. We have to raise £500 (100 per cent of this goes to the charity) each to be able to participate.”

Last August, the couple completed a 22-mile Mourne wall walk in aid of the Help for Heroes charity which raised £800 and, Kirsty tackled a gruelling and testing “Tough Mudder” 12-mile obstacle race designed by British Special Forces.

“We have a few close friends who have autistic children and we have collected for cancer charities which is a subject close to our hearts. We have also raised money for veterans.”

Kirsty’s ambitions stretch even further as she has the Great Wall of China in her sights which would involve walking for nine days.

“I’m not sure I’m ready for that yet,” she joked.
