Highest Strabane speeder caughtdoing 109mph

The highest speeder caught by the Police Service of Northern Ireland in Strabane last year was doing almost twice the speed limit outside Sion Mills, according to the force’s records.

The driver was detected travelling at 109 miles per hour in a 60 miles per hour zone on the Melmount Road outside Sion Mills.

The PSNI caught the driver using a hand held device.

According to information released by the PSNI under the Freedom of Information legislation the highest speed detected by the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership last year was that of a driver speeding at 72 miles per hour on the A5 between Victoria Bridge and Newtonstewart.

The driver was detected travelling at 12 miles per hour over the 60 miles per hour speed limit, according to the police service’s records.
