Hillhall Society enjoys successful JulyFestival

THE Hillhall Cultural Society recently held a very successful July Festival.

It kicked off with a cookery demonstration by the Rev. Paul Jamison of Hillhall Presbyterian Church with the society’s own Tom McWatters trying his best to copy the Rev.

It proved to be a great night and the cooking was superb. The Rev. just beat Tom on the audience score.

The next night was a Scottish night with Scottish music and dance. This was also well supported and the general public were taught the steps to several dances and were able to join with the dancers.

Supper was served and all agreed that it had been a great night. The Mayor made a short visit but as he had important business could not stay.

The Society then held an exhibition of Loyal Order banners and memorabilia on the nights leading up to the 12th July. Flowerhill LOL 328 had their last four banners on display, the oldest was over 100 years old and still in good condition.

The festival finished with a Lambeg drumming match and a chance for the novices to try drumming for themselves. Altough the public came and tried the drums it must be said the organisers were disappointed with the turn out of drums for the actual competition.

The Chairman and members of the Society would like to thank Rev Paul Jamison for all his hard work, Jim Halliday and Stephen Croft of the LVOHS for their help with the display, all who appeared on the Scottish night and those who turned up at the drumming match. Thanks must also go to Lisburn City Council for their support of the festival.
