Hillsborough boy’s art is sure to be big draw

A Hillsborough schoolboy’s

local landscape sketch is one of 15 works by Northern Ireland students set to feature in an upcoming exhibition at Belfast’s Ulster Museum.

Fifteen-year-old Ryan Hazley’s sketch is among 127 winning works in this year’s 60th Texaco Children’s Art competition.

These will provide the basis for the exhibition.

‘Landscape of Hillsborough’ secured Beechlawn School pupil Ryan the winner’s spot in Category G of the competition.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition, to which this year’s winning artists have been invited, will take place on Thursday, 20 November.

Performing the official opening will be guest of honour Brendan Jamison, world-renowned Belfast-born sculptor.

An award-winning artist and member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors, Brendan’s works have been sold at Sotheby’s and exhibited inside 10 Downing Street.

Two of his sugar-cube sculptures are currently on display at the Ulster Museum in the Royal Ulster Academy.

The Children’s Art exhibition will remain open to the public each day from Tuesday to Sunday.

Opening hours will be from 10am to 5pm and the exhibiiton will close on Sunday 4 January, 2015.
